These lovely little button flowers belong to Devil's-Bit Scabious 💜
As you can see, many different pollinators love what the flower provides.
It's name however, has nothing to do with its blooms.
It seems that the Devil was feeling a bit peckish, (one day, a long, long time ago, before they invented Tescos), and bit the roots of a Scabious plant for a snack.
To this day, the roots of Devil's-bit Scabious come to an abrupt end instead of tapering to a point like most plant roots.
Devil's-bit Scabious is a native perennial wildflower which needs a period of cold before its seeds will germinate so is best sown in Autumn. The plant provides food for Bees, Hoverflies, Butterflies, Moths and in a roundabout way, Bats*. It is an RHS Plants for Pollinators plant.
