We’re fast approaching the perfect time to sow seeds that need several months of cold before they will germinate.
Sowing in autumn is ideal and you should have lots of seedlings popping up in March from these varieties:

These three varieties are slightly different:
Angelica, which is a biennial, needs sowing between now and the end of the year as the seed will not keep so needs to be sown while fresh. It doesn’t necessarily need a cold spell to germinate although it can be helpful. Our seeds are from this summer’s harvest.
Granny’s Bonnets, (Aquilegia), is a perennial and can be sown any time of the year but cold can help improve germination rates.
Lastly, Yellow Rattle, needs to be sown while fresh, (2025 harvest), and also needs a cold spell to germinate.
