Also known as Buttonweed, Hind-heal and Bitter Buttons, Tansy has deeply-divided, aromatic leaves and clusters of golden button flowers through summer into autumn.
It grows naturally on verges and grassland but makes a tall, striking plant in a garden border.
Tansy provides food for the bright green tansy beetle, (sadly now rare in the UK) and also our most common hoverfly, the marmalade fly which is orange with black bands across its body.
Tansy attracts and provides food for many different species including:
- Moths including Common Nettle-tap 🦋
- Hoverflies, especially the marmalade fly
- Tansy Beetle (now very rare in UK)
- Bats🦇
- An "RHS Plants for Pollinators" plant **
