This is the familiar wild red poppy that grows in cornfields and hedgerows.
It has an upright habit with bright scarlet flowers and decorative seed pods.
It will self-seed but the seeds need light to germinate which is why seedlings appear on recently disturbed soil.
Although poppies do not produce nectar they do produce pollen making them very popular with bees.
