Site and soil type: Any reasonably well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
When to sow: Spring, early summer or early autumn.
Also known as Cool Tankard and Tailwort, Borage has bright blue starry flowers throughout the summer which are loved by bees.
The hairy leaves have a cucumber flavour and can be added to drinks such as Pimms, (as can the edible flowers which look great frozen into ice cubes.
