Basil – Greek - Ocimum basilicum var. minimum
Type: Tender Annual
Approximate height: 15-30 cm
Site and soil type: Well-drained soil in sun
When to sow: Indoors from March to June for growing outdoors, do not plant out until all risk of frost is gone. Indoors all year round for growing indoors.
A very good Basil for pots with tiny white flowers in summer, an easy basil to look after.
Small leaves but big on flavour. Use the leaves whole in salads and tomato sauces.
Water Basil plants in the morning, water the compost rather than watering the leaves.
Basil will do better in a large pot in a greenhouse or conservatory, especially in a disappointing summer, rather than outside in the garden
