This is a traditional tall yellow sunflower with large single flowers in August. This plant
grows to at around 2 metres tall, sometimes taller and can have blooms over 30
A lovely plant for children to grow and loved by bees and other pollinating insects.
The seed heads can be hung up for wild birds and mammals to feed from.
Sow from mid-April to the end of May, straight into prepared ground, (weeded &
raked), where they are to flower. Leave at least 10 cm between each seed and
plant approximately 12mm deep and water in.
If pests are a problem, (mice, voles, slugs etc.) they can be sown into
biodegradable pots under glass and planted out when larger and when there is no
risk of frost.
When the sunflower starts to get tall support the stem by tying it loosely to a cane
