Also known as Blue Sailors, Succory and Witloof, Chicory is a tall plant with numerous beautiful blue flowers along its stem.
Hoverflies, (whose larvae prey on aphids), are particularly fond of chicory.
The fresh young leaves and the blue flowers can be added to salads.
Chicory attracts and provides food for many different species including:
- Hoverflies
- Beetles
- Long-tongued Bumblebees and Honeybees
- An "RHS Plants for Pollinators" plant **
