Site and soil type: Prefers a rich, moist, but well drained soil in sun or partial shade.
When to sow: Spring
Parsley is widely used as a culinary herb and when used in cooking enhances other flavours. The plain leaved variety has a stronger flavour than the curled.
Flat dark green leaves and cream flowers in umbels in summer, (which should be removed if you wish to carry on harvesting the leaves.
Sow from February to July in plug trays or small pots, several seeds to a plug. Sprinkle just enough compost over the seeds to cover them and keep moist at about 18°C. Plant out into the garden when large enough and, if sown early, after the temperature has started to rise. Can be sown directly into the soil in late spring at a depth of about 3 cm. Parsley can be quite slow to germinate.
