Spider Plant - Chlorophytum comosum
Type: Evergreen tender perennial
Approximate height: 50 cm
Flowering time: All year
Site and soil type: Moist but well-drained soil
Uses: Decorative and possibly air purifying
Care: Water often from spring to autumn and sparingly in the winter.
Plant size: Supplied in a 1 or 2 litre pot.
Spider plants prefer a well-lit spot but away from direct sunlight. They are not frost hardy and are therefore kept as houseplants but can be placed outside in semi shade in the summer.
Repot in spring if the plant is starting to lift itself out of the pot.
As the plant matures it will produce flower stems bearing white flowers, followed by "baby" plants along this stem. The "babies" can be pinned on top of another pot of compost where they will root, Alternatively cut off the plantlets and place in about 2 cm of water where they will develop roots. They can then be potted on.
Tip: If the plant is in need of urgent watering the leaves will change from bright green to more of a grey-green colour.
Peat-free, pesticide-free, plastic-free.
These plants are sent to you in an eco-friendly cardboard POSIpot therefore you will need to provide a pot for your spider plant shortly after arrival. (The POSIpot will last about a week).
