Angelica has large green leaves and huge round greenish-white flower umbels in the second year. A tall impressive plant, it looks great at the back of the border but does need space.
Will self seed but if you wish to gather the seed to use elsewhere it is best used in the autumn after gathering as Angelica seed does not "keep".
The young stems can be candied for decorating cakes and the roots and seeds are used to flavour liqueurs. The foliage is eaten as a vegetable in Greenland and Scandinavia.
CAUTION: Take care when handling as contact with the leaves may increase skin photosensitivity - this plant's sap can cause skin blisters and rashes when handled in sunshine.
