Great Mullein - Verbascum thapsus
Approximate height: Up to 2m tall
Flowering time: Summer
Site and soil type: Well-drained soil in sun or semi-shade, will not tolerate cold, wet sites.
When to sow: Spring or early autumn
Also known as Fluffweed, Old Man's Flannel and Velvet Plant, probably due to the lovely very large soft woolly grey-green leaves which appear in it's first year.
In the second year a tall flowering stem appears covered in small yellow blooms. These are attractive to bees and Mullein Moth which has yellow, black and white caterpillars.
Sow in spring or early autumn. Prepare the soil by removing any weeds and raking lightly.
Scatter the seeds thinly on the soil surface where they are to grow, and gently rake them in or cover lightly with soil.
They can also be grown in trays inside and pricked out and potted on or alternatively, sown into peat free biodegradable pots and planted out when they've grown into small sturdy plants.
Do not let the seed bed or pots dry out before seeds have germinated.
Contents: Approximately 1400 seeds / 0.14 g
