Stocks are always limited so if you would like me to advise you when they're available and/or reserve you a packet or two please let me know anytime between now and August.

Also known as Corn Rattle, Hay Rattle and Penny Grass, Yellow rattle has bright yellow hooded flowers and green slender leaves.

It is pollinated by bees, especially large bumble bees and when the seeds are ripe they rattle in their pods, hence the name.

This is a semi-parasitic plant often grown in wildflower meadows to suppress the growth of grasses and enable other wildflowers to thrive. It must be either sown with grass seed or where there is existing grass.

Yellow rattle prefers a sunny site and poorish soil and must be sown during autumn as it needs several months of cold before it will germinate. The seed loses viability quickly so needs to be sown the same year it is harvested (this seed is from 2021 harvest).

The seeds should not be covered once they are sown and must be exposed to the winter cold but I've found that bank voles find them very tasty. If you feel this might be a problem, sow into small biodegradable pots and cover tightly with mesh, (something like a carrot bag is ideal).

Approximately 0.66 g / 200 seeds / enough for 0.6 sq.m to 6 sq.m
